Tennessee Titans: One of the best teams in the NFL – period

Men lie…women lie…and in the case of the Tennessee Titans…stats lie sometimes, too.

While their overall statistics may contradict, the fact of the matter is, Tennessee has proven to be one of the best teams in the NFL after the first four weeks.

The Titans entered today’s contest ranked 29th in total offense and 30th in scoring, and mustered just two offensive touchdowns through three games.

They exited today’s contest with a three-game win streak and 3-1 record, sitting atop the AFC South.

But it’s not just the record, it’s who Tennessee beat that trumps ugly statistics.

In back to back weeks the undermanned Titans knocked off the Jacksonville Jaguars and reigning world champion Philadelphia Eagles, two teams widely predicted to meet in this year’s Super Bowl.

And they did so in completely different fashions.

Last week in Jacksonville, Tennessee made up their mind to stand in the ring and trade body blows with the bully in a defensive test of wills. The Titans rushed 35 times and passed just 13 times in a physical grind it out 9-6 victory.

Today, against the potent Eagles’ offense, the Titans decided to be aggressive downfield early and often. Marcus Mariota matched Carson Wentz throw for throw, completing 30 passes for 344 yards and 2 touchdowns…the last being the overtime walk-off game winner to Corey Davis.

For good measure, Mariota tacked on 45 yards and a score on the ground.

People outside of Nashville may scoff at the notion, but name another team with better wins on their resume than Tennessee’s?

Legendary coach Bill Parcells made this infamous statement about his team…”You are what your record says you are.

And after four weeks…the 3-1 Titans are one of the best teams in the NFL.

Period.
